EGS

Our principal purpose is to provide public Earth science knowledge to support the EU’s competitiveness, social well-being, environmental management and international commitments. In our day-to-day activities, we promote the contribution of geosciences to European Union affairs and action programmes, and provide a permanent network between the Geological Surveys of Europe and a common, but not unique, gateway to each of the Members and their national networks. We jointly address European issues of common interest in the field of geosciences, with the aim to publish, or see our Members publishing, technical advice for the European Union Institutions. EGS only pursues activities that lie exclusively in the public interest or in the interest of public administration that will benefit from the combined and coordinated expertise of our members and in the direct interest of the European Union and/or of the European Free Trade Association.

About

EuroGeoSurveys provides the European Institutions with expert, neutral, balanced and practical pan-European advice and information as an aid to problem-solving, policy, regulatory and programme formulation in areas such as: The use and the management of on- and off-shore natural resources related to the subsurface of the Earth, (energy, including the renewable geothermal energy; minerals and water, soils, underground space and land) The identification of natural hazards of geological origin, their monitoring and the mitigation of their impacts (deficit or excess of trace elements in soils and waters, earthquakes, natural emissions of hazardous gases, landslides and rockfalls, land heave and subsidence, shrinking and swelling clays Environmental management, waste management and disposal, land-use planning; Sustainable urban development and safe construction; e- government and the access to geoscientific metadata and data; The development of interoperable and harmonised geoscientific data at the European scale. The portal of EuroGeoSurveys provides an access to geoscientific metadata, information and knowledge at European and national scales, following the links in the thematic pages. It also presents information on EuroGeoSurveys its activities and the Member Organizations.

LCA stands for Land Cover Analysis and is used to provide an up to date, digital overview of what covers the surface of our earth split out into 10 key land cover classes. The LCA is often the first step in many environmental monitoring or site selection processes.

The complexity of modern urban environments has led to the introduction of 3D Land Information Systems (LISs), which tend to replace traditional 2D LIS architectures for the purposes of urban planning and regeneration, land administration, real estate management and civil development. Both the need for 3D visualization of the geometry of buildings in various time instances through the years and the need for acquisition of 3D models in various levels of detail (LoDs), which not only fulfill the requirements of the various users but also they speed up the visualization process, are obvious. Thus, additional dimensions, that is, for time and scale, need to be supported by a modern LIS. This service introduces a 5D modelling pipeline that may be adopted by a multi-purpose LIS for the selective creation of 3D models of an urban area in various time instances and at various LoDs, enriched with cadastral and other spatial data. The methodology is based on automatic change detection algorithms for spatial-temporal analysis of the spatial changes that took place in subsequent time periods, using image orientation, dense image matching and structure from motion algorithms, the procedure requires photogrammetric stereo plotting, implements procedural modelling and relies on the availability of overlapping aerial and terrestrial imagery, ground control points and cadastral information.

With AutoMap, the handling of satellite images has never been easier! We simplify the production of maps based on earth observation data and handle the application of machine learning algorithms for land surface classifications by providing a solid data processing pipeline in a fully managed cloud infrastructure. Bring your own samples or use our default solution, while we take care of the thousands of images that fit your request, all the clouds in your area of interest and every aspect of process optimization and secure data storage. Don't worry about machine learning concepts, intelligent training data collection, hyperparameter optimization or informative feature spaces - That's our job as well! Seeing the world from above is now as demanding as ordering a pizza!

Mutation Signalling on agriculture parcels in the Netherlands
Agriculture, crop acreage, Monitor crops, crop types extent, Land use, Assess land value, ownership, type, use, Measure land use statistics, Agricultural commodities, Agriculture and rural development policy, Farming, Real-estate management, Local and regional planners, City authorities, Planners, Regional governments, Town authorities, Agriculture and rural policy makers
NEO signals changes to agriculture parcels. Monitoring, based on satellite imagery in combination with artificial intelligence, aims to detect changes in the boundaries of the parcels. The service saves time and money because, based on the mutation signalling, parcels can be looked at more specifically to determine the new parcel boundaries. This supports the process of keeping the national LPIS (Land Parcel Identification System) registry up to date. The service that NEO provides is unique: it is the first time that mutation signalling based on earth observation is performed automatically on this scale. In this way the 500.000 parcels in the Netherlands are monitored. Open data from the national satellite data portal in the Netherlands is used.
