RSS-Hydro's main business consists of developing science-driven products and services focusing on water, floods and flood disasters worldwide, based on computer simulations, Earth Observation and space technologies. RSS-Hydro is a R&D company with its activities pivoting around three business pillars: research, development of science-driven products and expert scientific consulting. RSS-Hydro’s Research and Education Department is a government-accredited research institute that may receive public funding to host and train PhD students and postdoctoral scholars. RSS-Hydro's RED overall mission is to establish a globally influential private R&D centre in flood science, with strategic public-private partnerships, including universities and national research institutions, joint ventures as well as build strong collaborations with a number of international organizations. RSS-Hydro is a proud member of the Luxembourg Space Cluster, the Open Geospatial Consortium and EARSC. RSS-Hydro’s team consists of three senior scientists, including a recipient of an industrial fellowship award from the Luxembourg National Research Fund (FNR) in collaboration with the University of Luxembourg. The team regularly submits research projects to the European Commission, the European Space Agency and other national and international programmes. RSS-Hydro’s research revenue in the first quarter of 2020 accounted for half of its revenues while in 2019 its “Commercial Flood Products & Services” revenue stream accounted for 70% of all revenues. Most of that revenue stream came from model simulations and predictions. However, given the high demand from the flood disaster response community to offer more innovation in the EO application market, RSS-Hydro focuses resources and R&D projects to effectively respond to this market gap. RSS-Hydro is constantly committed to better serve science to everyone and engage end-users from a variety of different sectors from the start by assisting them in developing better products for their needs or using new and existing services in a way that produces better actionable information.
